Lakers students in year 7 have been taking part in a 'Readathon' (sponsored read). This is part of a national event to mark 'World Book Day' on 5th March.
The purpose is primarily to raise the profile of reading within our community.
Students were also able to raise money for charity. Students were sponsored to read as much as possible during the week to raise money for three charities. The Roald Dahl Foundation, the CLIC Sargent charity and the school charity, Great Oaks Hospice.
Students have been reading in their English lessons, in the school library at break and lunchtimes and 49 students also volunteered to take part in an all day Reading Marathon, which took place on Thursday in the library.
Staff have also been taking part by reading aloud extracts from their favourite books to students in the library at lunchtimes.
We raised over £250, well done and thanks to all involved.

Lakers library is open between 8.00 and 4.00 every day. Our resources include a large selection of fiction and non-fiction books, DVD’s, CD’s, newspapers and magazines. All of which can be borrowed, with no charge, by any member of the Lakers community.
We also have 24 networked computers, an interactive whiteboard, a DVD player, and access to a wide range of educational films and documentaries through our SKY+ package.
