At Lakers we seek to promote a democratic ethos within the school.  The School Council provides the structure for students to contribute to the development of the School’s vision, aims, purpose and values and so to improve the School.

• Treat them with dignity and respect as thinking beings
• Help them to develop the skills of democratic citizenship
• Recognise that giving young people a voice is a means of protecting themselves and of helping their teachers to find the methods and techniques which will enable them to learn in the best way
• See students as potentially more effective students if empowered, trusted and allowed to feel safe and able to express themselves freely and responsibly.
