The Year 7 Softball team; Nathan Howells, Kian Skidmore, Coran Brace, Tomas Elsmore, Sean Kear, Luke Harris, Cameron Mills, Jack Harris, George Walker & Nathan Marsh took on Dene Magna at home in their first ever Softball fixture.
Dene Magna went into bat first with Tomas Elsmore pitching accurately and successfully getting two opponents struck out. Some good fielding from Coran Brace and Jack Harris and home plate work from George Walker kept the visitors to just 3 runs. Lakers batted next and scored a respectable 5 runs through Cameron, Jack, Nathan H, Tomas & Kian. The most pleasing aspect was that all the batters managed a legal “hit” with no-one being “struck out”.
The second innings saw Dene Magne restricted to 4 runs with further good fielding by Luke Harris, Kian Skidmroe and Sean Kear. Lakers went into bat knowing 3 runs would be enough to keep them in front of their opposition at the half way stage. Cameron got the team off to the perfect start with a run early on, this led to 4 more in quick succession from Jack, George and both Nathan’s. At this point the bad weather that had been predicted all day finally arrived with gusto; heavy rain and a hail storm followed which made the batting and running between bases unsafe. There was still time for Coran to score the final run to take the score to 11-7 in favour of Lakers School.
Although the game was cut short, the Year 7s played very well and are looking forward to their next game. Thankfully we don’t play hide & seek, we seem to lack the skills needed, as shown below (taken before the rain clouds rolled in).
