Strong Start, Poor Finish

Year 10 played Wyedean at home on Wednesday 11th March.

The game started incredibly well with pressure being constantly applied to the Wyedean defence. Lakers could’ve gone 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes but weren’t clinical enough. Declan Fissenden came close to scoring but unfortunately couldn’t find the net- he didn’t give up and a great deflected shot was followed up by Luke Jones to put Lakers 1-0 up a few minutes later. The next 15 minutes were a blur with Lakers dominating but unable to capitalise- confidence was high and the belief was that scoring was inevitable and we’d go on to win comfortably. Unfortunately whilst Lakers missed chance after chance Wyedean popped up with a goal of their own against the run of play- then came the typical Y10 panic.

Lakers went into half-time unlucky to be drawing 1-1. In the second half Wyedean had steadied the ship and went on to capitalise as Lakers missed chance after chance. In a game where Wyedean had 4/5 shots they scored 3, leaving our keeper Kane Evans no chance to save any of them, Lakers had well over 10 real goal-scoring opportunities and were left with only 1 goal to speak of. Lakers left the pitch full of regrets but on a positive note there were some great performances from Dec Fissenden, Harry Stacey, Charlie Barnett, Corey Powles, Luke Jones and Jamie Mee.
