On the 19 May Lakers School travelled to the Prince of Wales stadium, Cheltenham for the District Athletics’ finals. This event serves not only as a Schools’ District competition, but also allows individual athletes the opportunity to try and achieve the qualifying standards for the County Athletics’ finals on the 11 June. As a school we achieved our best place finish with 3rd place overall, this was achieved by a really strong performance from the girls’ teams, finishing 2nd in all 3 age groups. The boys faired nearly as well as their female counterparts averaging 3rd place in all the age groups.
This is a fantastic achievement for the school and as a result we now have many students who have qualified for the County Athletics. At the District Athletics there are 3 age groups; minor boys and girls (Year 7), junior boys and girls (Year 8 and 9) and inter boys and girls (Year 10 and 11). Unfortunately at the County Athletics only students in the junior and inter age groups are able to go through. The students listed below have qualified for the County Athletics and their event and finishing position at the District finals are also highlighted.
Good luck to all those athletes who have taken up the opportunity to represent the Forest of Dean at the County Championships on the 11 June, we look forward to hearing about how you all get on.
